iPad art by Siggi Eggertsson
I'm loving these great works using nothing but an iPad, by Siggi Eggertsson, all of which are available to buy in poster format from Zazzle.
"For the past 10 years I've been drawing almost exclusively on the computer. I lost interest in drawing freely with my hands, drawing on a computer somehow felt more natural to me. Then I bought an iPad and was looking for ways to make it useful. I started fooling around with a drawing program and a stylus, and it was surprisingly fun. The outcome is this exhibition, featuring portraits, landscapes, animals, abstract images, typography and all sorts of things that I like. The exhibition was originally shown at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid in October 2012."

Black Sabbath's 13 Ad emerges from old fly posters
Wow! I love this new set of advertising for Black Sabbath's new album!
The ads are appearing on advertising spaces across Copenhagen, the effect of layered fly posters ripped apart to reveal the Sabbath ad was simulated by glueing layers of old posters together and carving the holes by hand.
"For some time, we had been fascinated by the almost endless layers of posters that cover our city walls," says Morten Ingermann, CEO of McCann Copenhagen, the agency responsible. "What if we dug our way through them. Imagine what we could find?"
Amazing stuff!

ZXX Encrypted typeface - A typographic response to the surveillance of the NSA
This inspiring work was created as a response to growing concerns over privacy on the internet and spying by governments, in particular the NSA.
The typeface ZXX has been 'encrypted' to stop stop big brother's prying eyes.
I love the idea behind this design, the relevant questions it raises about privacy and the spying conducted by government's across the world. This is a symbolic project, not intended to become a real tool against spying, but another way of raising the topic to the fore and getting people thinking about what is more important. Privacy or security? And can you really have either?
Read more about ZXX here.

Peter Cline is hoping to create a collection of his comics called 'Ocular Anecdotes', with a little help from people like you! "I’m hoping people like yourself who might have an interest in my artwork would help me to print ‘Ocular Anecdotes’, by pre-ordering the work. There are also lots of different artworks and goodies you can also get by pledging different amounts. If you’ve never heard of Kickstarter, its a great website & funding platform for all different types of creative people." Click here to read more, and to fund the project. |

Yamaha Silent Sessions with HJ Lim
I love this new video from Yamaha showing South Korean pianist HJ Lim floating along, what looks like the canals near mile end Park and Victoria Park, East London, atop a narrow boat in full swing on her piano (video at the bottom of this post).
Silent Piano Technology
This stunning film shows HJ Lim playing Yamaha’s Silent Piano Technology which amazingly enables the piano to be played silently using headphones! When the silent function is activated, the hammers will no longer hit the strings and instead, a highly sophisticated sensor-technology captures all movements of the keys and sends them to the digital tone module.
A headphone-enabled piano means she can play Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2 in complete silence while drifting casually down a canal without upsetting the neighbours - or disturbing the ducks!

Art & Design Movements Explained By The Open Univesity
The open University has created six animated videos to explain different art and design movements as a fun way of marketing their design courses.
From Gothic Revival to Modernism, they've animated the great artists and designers who lead they way in their own respective movements. I've posted a few of my favourites below. To view all six visit the Open University YouTube channel.

329 cotton balls & an abandoned tank in Switzerland...
What to do with an abandoned tank in deep dark switzerland?
This amazing installation by Zimoun is comprised of 329 cotton balls that are attached to small motors that bounce back and fourth drumming against the inside of the tank. There's a video at the bottom which shows the little balls at work. Lovely stuff!

Dumb Ways To Die
Ok so I might be a bit late to this but it's still pretty amazing!
Dumb Ways to Die is a public service announcement campaign by Metro Trains in Melbourne, Australia to promote rail safety. The campaign was devised by advertising agency McCann Melbourne. Watch the video at the bottom, and visit the website here
There's also a great app to download for iphone here where you can try your darndest not to die (in a dumb way), and most importantly - learn to be safe around trains.
