I'm Comic Sans, Asshole

Just read this in this months Creative Review... So good!

By Mike Lacher

Listen up. I know the shit you've been saying behind my back. You think I'm stupid. You think I'm immature. You think I'm a malformed, pathetic excuse for a font. Well think again, nerdhole, because I'm Comic Sans, and I'm the best thing to happen to typography since Johannes fucking Gutenberg.

You don't like that your coworker used me on that note about stealing her yogurt from the break room fridge? You don't like that I'm all over your sister-in-law's blog? You don't like that I'm on the sign for that new Thai place? You think I'm pedestrian and tacky? Guess the fuck what, Picasso. We don't all have seventy-three weights of stick-up-my-ass Helvetica sitting on our seventeen-inch MacBook Pros. Sorry the entire world can't all be done in stark Eurotrash Swiss type. Sorry some people like to have fun. Sorry I'm standing in the way of your minimalist Bauhaus-esque fascist snoozefest. Maybe sometime you should take off your black turtleneck, stop compulsively adjusting your Tumblr theme, and lighten the fuck up for once.

People love me. Why? Because I'm fun. I'm the life of the party. I bring levity to any situation. Need to soften the blow of a harsh message about restroom etiquette? SLAM. There I am. Need to spice up the directions to your graduation party? WHAM. There again. Need to convey your fun-loving, approachable nature on your business' website? SMACK.

Like daffodils in motherfucking spring.

When people need to kick back, have fun, and party, I will be there, unlike your pathetic fonts. While Gotham is at the science fair, I'm banging the prom queen behind the woodshop. While Avenir is practicing the clarinet, I'm shredding "Reign In Blood" on my double-necked Stratocaster. While Univers is refilling his allergy prescriptions, I'm racing my tricked-out, nitrous-laden Honda Civic against Tokyo gangsters who'll kill me if I don't cross the finish line first. I am a sans serif Superman and my only kryptonite is pretentious buzzkills like you.

It doesn't even matter what you think. You know why, jagoff? Cause I'm famous. I am on every major operating system since Microsoft fucking Bob. I'm in your signs. I'm in your browsers. I'm in your instant messengers. I'm not just a font. I am a force of motherfucking nature and I will not rest until every uptight armchair typographer cock-hat like you is surrounded by my lovable, comic-book inspired, sans-serif badassery.

Enough of this bullshit. I'm gonna go get hammered with Papyrus.

Live Every Litre : Meet Metallica

Another amazing dream completed by www.liveeverylitre.com - Honda's latest project. I've previously posted about two other unique dreams one of which I'd love to do myself. I'll leave you to decide which. See three guys cross Riva Del Garda on a bouncy castle, and burlesque dancer, Agent Lynch, strips on the streets of Paris.

Anyway, in this video three Metallica fans live out their dream, and meet the band in Lisbon! The lucky fan to meet the band is Environmental Consultant, Tom Green (24, Newcastle). Tom drove all the way to Lisbon to meet the band in a new Honda CR-Z, which was of course suitably painted up for the journey.

Tom’s journey and meeting with Metallica can now be seen at www.youtube.com/liveeverylitre Tom’s story is just one of a number of stories making up the Live Every Litre crowd-sourced documentary film in which members of the public have been nominated by the project's online community to realise their dream in the new Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe. The journeys which make up the road movie range from the pure fun of the London Schoolboys, to the poignant journey of "Bowman" who will revisit the site he came ashore during the D-Day landings. These stories are being filmed by award winning Swiss Director, Claudio Von Planta, best known for filming the "Long Way Down and "Long Way Round" expeditions with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman. The 35 day journey can be followed at www.liveeverylitre.com, the Facebook Group www.facebook.com/LiveEveryLitre or by following @liveeverylitre on Twitter.

Live Every Litre : Bouncy Castle Hijacking

3 guys and a bouncy castle hijack an International Sailing Regatta.

This is another dream lived out for www.liveeverylitre.com - the latest project from to come out of Honda. Who wouldn't love to do this?? It looks like great fun, another successful dream completed for the project. The guys in this video managed to cross the Riva Del Garda in their inflatable fortress, making the first recorded crossing of the iconic Italian lake on a giant inflatable castle.

The castle successfully crashed the international sailing regatta, I might add, with style. The bouncy strong hold glided it's way over the Riva Del Garda and straight into a group of Lazers (small sail boats).

These three guys had previously driven all the way from Mongolia last summer for a charity banger rally, and I think this was their reward. Job well done!

Live Every Litre : Burlesque Dancer bares it all in blue on the streets of Paris

On Saturday 29 May Paris was momentarily brought to a standstill as Agent Lynch (London, 26) performed the world’s first guerilla burlesque routine in the streets of Monmartre as part of the Live Every Litre film project.

The Live Every Litre project is a promotional campaign run by Honda. The innovative company have produced some amazing marketing campaigns in their time, and this one has taken a slightly different angle, using social media and personal experiences at the heart of the concept.

The project revolves around the 'dream journeys people want to make - but never do'. It's a great campaign theme, and there are certainly some interesting dreams posted on their website. I'm intrigued to see where this campaign will go next!

Here's a little more about the burlesque stunt performed in Paris...

As the rain clouds cleared around Sacre Coeur, Agent Lynch strode into the middle of Place de Tertre and immediately became the main attraction. She performed her favourite burlesque routine, inspired by artist Yves Klein and French New Wave cinema to the track ‘Je t’aime’ by Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin. Lynch tantalised the unsuspecting audience with a striptease from her vintage dress right down to her lacy lingerie. Just when the crowd thought they had seen it all, she poured a tin of blue paint all over her naked body before imprinting herself on a white and red satin flag to complete the French tricolore.

Agent Lynch, aka Kate Rawlinson (originally from Newcastle), was one of the first people to apply to star in the Live Every Litre film back in February 2010. After receiving thousands of ratings from the online community, Agent Lynch was selected to be a part of the project by film director, Claudio von Planta. Von Planta explained: "Agent Lynch is fantastic. She has an incredible spirit and we were immediately impressed with her vivacious attitude. The burlesque world is mysterious, glamorous and unknown which was what intrigued me to include her story in the film."

A paint-splattered Kate said: "To perform my show in the streets of Paris was a dream come true. I was so nervous before I started dancing but once the music kicked in, I forgot my nerves and really started to enjoy it. The crowd were amazing too. I’m so happy I could bring burlesque to the masses – this is my love letter to the French!“

Having taken the Parisian streets by storm, Agent Lynch was then whisked off to her next adventure as part of the Live Every Litre project – an afternoon with Europe’s undisputed Queen of Burlesque, Immodesty Blaize. Recently dubbed ‘The Goddess’, Immodesty imparted her wisdom to Agent Lynch as the two dancers discussed the choreography of Lynch’s new routine.

The final part of Agent Lynch’s journey led her to watch a performance at the Crazy Horse, described by Lynch herself as "the holy grail of the showgirl." Founded in 1951 by Bernardin, Crazy Horse continues to stage inventive and stylish cabaret under the choreography of Philippe Decoufle.

Embracing her Parisian experience and employing all of Immodesty Blaize’s advice, Agent Lynch will perform another routine on Saturday 5 June in Carnaby Street, London as part of the Summer of Love Festival arranged to celebrate the street‘s 50th anniversary.

Agent Lynch’s story is just one of a number of journeys making up the Live Every Litre crowd-sourced documentary film in which members of the public have been nominated by the project's online community to realise their dream in the new Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe. The journeys which make up the road movie range from the pure fun of the London Schoolboys, to the poignant journey of "Bowman" who will revisit the site he came ashore during the D-Day landings. These stories are being captured by award winning Swiss Director, Claudio Von Planta, best known for filming the "Long Way Down and "Long Way Round" expeditions with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman. The 35 day journey can be followed at www.liveeverylitre.com, the Facebook Group www.facebook.com/LiveEveryLitre or by following @liveeverylitre on Twitter.

On another note... I just realised that Claudio is one of the camera men! If you've ever seen Long Way Round (Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman) you'll know how cool that is!
