Guardian Film Season Challenge : Film Sequence Montage

The Guardian have just launched this film sequence mash-up as a part of the Guardian and Observer Film Season 2010. They offer a prize to the person who can guess all 26 films used in the montage - win them all on DVD! Not bad eh?

It's a really cool sequence with film titles created using an almost poster style animation. A while ago I blogged about 35mm - a very similar piece, I wonder if it's by the same people?

Anyway, take a look and see how many you can guess! Please visit the Guardian website to enter >

iPad art : Making Future Magic, iPad Light Painting

Wow. This great work was produced by Berg London and Dentsu London. Berg and Dentsu explore new ways technology can be used in a playful way.

“We like typography in the world, we like inventing new techniques for making media, we want to explore characters and movement, we like light painting, we like photography and cinematography as methods to explore and represent the physical world of stuff.

We made this film with the brilliant Timo Arnall (who we’ve worked with extensively on the Touch project) and videographer extraordinaire Campbell Orme. Our very own Matt Brown composed the music.”

David A. Carter : White Noise and Blue 2 pop-up books

I've never seen pop-up books quite like White Noise and Blue2 - two children's books by David Carter.

White Noise is the latest book from David Carter which explores sounds and colours, using intricate shapes and amazingly complex paper mechanics. The book creeks and groans as you turn from page to page, there are even pages with musical parts that drag across patterns of cut paper and scratching across rough opaque paper. Click here to see White Noise on the Tate online shop >

Blue2 is a more playful book. As you turn through the pop-up sculptures the book becomes a game to find the 'blue 2' (number 2). Each page turns into a riddle giving you clues to find the next blue 2 hidden within the pop-up paper. Click here to see Blue 2 on the Tate online shop >

Both books are great fun, and will astound anyone who picks them up, I highly recommend having a look at the real thing as the pictures don't do them justice.

Space Invaders by Michael Johansson

These amazing sculptures were created by Michael Johansson.

“I am intrigued by irregularities in daily life. Not those that appear when something extraordinary occurs, but those that are created by an exaggerated form of regularity. Colours or patterns from two separate objects or environments concur, like when two people pass each other dressed in the exact same outfit. Or when you are switching channels on your TV and realize that the same actor is playing two different roles on two different channels at the same time. Or that one day the parking lot contained only red cars” he writes.

What is the new Google bubbles homepage all about?

Have you seen Google recently? They're up to old tricks, putting up a new UK and US homepage which will cause a storm! A little more simple than the previous 'Pacman' inspired homepages, but it's simple look and flying bubbles that react to the mouse cursor are great fun!

So what's it all about?

Some new way of using HTML5? perhaps? Just a bit of fun? Maybe?! Who knows, if anyone knows let me know and post up a comment.

10 by Marion Bataille : Pop up book

10 is the new pop up book by Marion Bataille recently published by Tate Publishing.

10 explores the nature of counting. Imagine counting to ten with your fingers and then back again, we normally see one number as we count but we're actually forgetting the negative / mirror number on our fingers. So three becomes eight and four becomes seven. Bataille shows this thought process by using the pop up technoque to blend from number to number in a seamless way.

The book comes in a rather nice red box sheath and is a very solid and satisfying thing to hold as you flip through the pages.

See the numbers change in 10 by Marion Bataille:

Marion Bataille has previously published the hugely successful ABC3D - another amazing pop up book of the depicting the alphabet as you've never seen it before! Take a look at this:

Tip-Ex - a Hunter Shoots a Bear

Check out this new campaign from Tip-Ex 'A Hunter Shoots a Bear'. It's a great idea, and pulled off perfectly. A video plays out of a couple of hunters in the forest, when all of a sudden a bear crashes in on their tent! What happens next? You decide! The next bit is where things get interesting, as the main character pulls a giant Tip-Ex roller from the adverts on the right, straight out of the video screen and allows you to re-write the story using Tip-ex. Now you can type in anything you want to happen, and watch the actors perform your request!

Cuddle?
Fight?
Talk?

Even the error messages are pretty great, with the bear acting at it's best.
