Diaspora : The next Facebook?

A new alternative to Facebook is edging over the horizon, with it's launch date set for 15th September. It's called Diaspora and was developed by a rather clever bunch from New York (see image below - complete with blackboard!).

Due to Facebook's recent bashing this year on privacy settings, Diaspora may just have a chance! It will certainly gain a lot of interest in the coming weeks as more is revealed about it's new functions and how it really works.

So far it's all a little vague, but here's a statement from the guys:

"We have Diaspora working, we like it, and it will be open-sourced on September 15th.

"We are spending a good chunk of time concentrating on building clear, contextual sharing. That means an intuitive way for users to decide, and not notice deciding, what content goes to their coworkers and what goes to their drinking buddies."

Looking forward to seeing it working!

Slightly bullshitty video from the creators of Diaspora but it kind of gives you a clue as to what it's all about...
