Brendan Jamison : Tate Modern and Neo Bankside sugarcube sculptures

Brendan Jamison is a sugar specialist, well sculpturer anyway. These amazing images are of his latest sugar works of the Tate Modern building, Neo Bankside and Helen's Tower (Bangor).

The Tate Modern sculpture was commissioned by Native Land & Grosvenor for the 2010 London Festival of Architecture, NEO Bankside Pavillion, Southbank. The Tate building itself built to a 1:100 scale took 3 months with a whopping 71,908 sugar cubes to complete!

Neo Bankside is designed by world-renowned archictects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. Tate Modern is designed by Herzog and DeMeuron. The original bankside power station was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott.

Antony Gormley : Critical Mass at the De La Warr

I've just been to visit the De La Warr Pavilion back in Bexhill and had a quick look around Antony Gormley's Critical Mass exhibition on the roof top terrace. The exhibition is running there until the 31st August 2010 and is free of charge.

The arrival of Critical Mass at the De La War is the first ever sculpture installation on the roof top terrace. Critical Mass is one of Antony Gormley's most known works, made up of sixty life size cast iron body forms. All of the haunting bodies were cast from molds of Gormley's body.

I'd seen the exhibition previously but had not realized the original concept for the casts. The literature at the exhibition explains, "...The first impression is of some kind of trauma, perhaps an act of violence perpertrated towards the masses such as terrorism or genocide (The work was originally made for a huge railway terminus in Austria, thus consciously connecting it to the victims of the Jewish holocaust."

Another great exhibition at the De La Warr! If you're in the area, its definitely worth taking a look.

Malibu by U Competition

Malibu has just launched a new Limited Edition bottle called Malibu By U. The idea of the new bottle is to give a blank canvas to the public to apply their own design for the bottle.

To kick start the competition, Malibu enrolled the support of graffiti artists Jimi Crayon, Pinky and MNKY, who have designed their own bottle (you can check them out here on Malibu's Facebook page. Anyone can enter, either using Malibu's online 'studio' where you can create a design using preset creative tools, or get yourself a bottle of the stuff and create a physical one!

View the online gallery at www.malibu-rum.com/byu. The competition is to win one of three trips to one of many world wide destinations. The designs all have their own vote counters here's my attempt...

Vote for me!
